Typically one would connect a hospital with a grey sterile place. But that’s not the case with the new children’s clinic Princess Maxima. Here, the Thiele Glas Werk GmbH provided 650 pieces of colorful glass. Overall, 15 different colored films were installed in various combinations. A bridge construction was built with a glass surface of 1258m² at a height of 5m and a length of 160m that connects the existing children's hospital with the newly built adult cancer center (pediatric oncology). All childhood cancer patients in The Netherlands will be concentrated within this building. Kids, parents, doctors and nursing staff can now walk safely and fast from one to the other building without having to cross the four-lane road and two-lane tram track. It simply brings a much needed colorful world into the daily hospital routine. Patients and their parents had an active role in judging the quality of the design from a child and family perspective.
