What’s your recollection of your last trip through an airport? Chances are it’s not positive. Darroff Design was determined to change that experience when they approached the design of the new Terminal F at the Philadelphia International Airport. CARVART architectural glass and hardware collaborated with the design team to elevate the travel experience by making the terminal hub feel like a destination. These days, most people arrive early at the airport to allow extra time for security. In Philadelphia’s Terminal F, they can settle in at the foodcourt and gaze up at beautiful CARVART Color sky blue architectural glass. Blue structural laminated railing glass surrounds the second floor mezzanine of Terminal F, bringing the color of the exterior sky into the atrium space. The glass provides a colorful, reflective architectural feature for both the first and second floors. The calming blue glass provides a visual respite to harried travelers rushing to and from the food court and adjacent gates. It also provides a tranquil approach to the second floor US Airways Club. Attention to detail brings a high-end sophisticated aesthetic to the project. Those details include flat stainless steel flush frames around the glass that give it a sleek look while protecting the glass from chips. As strong as it is beautiful, the architectural glass has to stand up to high traffic. In fact, more than 5.3 million passengers pass through this location in the Philadelphia Airport each year. The airport estimates that one in six passengers start or end his trip at one of this terminal’s 38 gates. The hub also makes an important first impression for many travelers. Some 60% of passengers who use Terminal F arrive there by bus. So this area is the front door to the airport. Luminous blue CARVART Color architectural glass provides a warm welcome.
